Short story:

Josh Hamilton was sad for two years.

Then he came home.

Twice.

Josh Hamilton is starting to be happy again.

Hamilton's welcome...

Despite online comments indicating that Hamilton could expect at least some boos and insults on his return to Arlington, his first at bat in the second inning tonight was loud and positive.

Even better is that Hamilton acknowledged the fans after the hit, and is clearly enjoying himself.  G.M. Daniels and Manager Bannister stated earlier this week that their message to Josh has been to just go out, relax and have fun.  It looks like he is.

...and, once more, again...

Something to note.  In case you missed it, that was Josh Hamilton still doing rehab who was on second base.  After Gallo scores, Hamilton waits for him to high-five and talk.

Hamilton is a big guy.  I mean, you can look up his physical stats, he's not the tallest or anything, but overall Josh is just a big guy.  He's taller than average and has a huge chest and broad shoulders.  And yet he's a bit smaller than Joey Gallo.

Almost porn...

This may take a while to load. Gallo homer from front and side. It's a thing of beauty. The lack of effort, the bat speed, the speed of the ball off the bat...

Magadan for the record...

For those who are interested, and I know a lot of people who are, Dave Magadan indicates "no, they aren't doing what I'm telling them:"  in the Dallas Morning News.

And again, Bannister and Magadan express frustration at not getting through to the Rangers players.

Wait, you were SERIOUS? UPDATED.

Josh Hamilton, who, as a *garbage* player for Anaheim (according to the kind of idiots who inhabit twitter feeds and baseball forums) was worth 1.9 and 1.2 WAR the past two years, will allegedly be paid $5 million per year each of the next three years.

That amount makes this deal *almost* disaster-proof.  With a ceiling that's *almost* "the sky is the limit".

Baseball, man.

News potentially as big as Yu Darvish losing a year.  The Rangers are *allegedly* actively working on a deal for Josh Hamilton to return to Texas.

And, NO, Shin-Soo Choo WOULD NOT be part of that deal.  Choo still has a year or two to contribute some real value to Texas.  Acquiring Hamilton at this point is the REAL lottery ticket.

Josh

Over the past few weeks, Rangers fans have watched with more interest possibly even than Angels fans as the latest Josh Hamilton saga has unfolded.  Josh's own great failures, his public relations miscues (many of which I've made fun of) and his cartoon-like image have once again come crashing down around him to once-again reveal a flawed individual who, unfortunately, doesn't have a recent history of superstar level performance to hold up as a shield for the mockery and insults.

The deplorable behavior by the Angels front office, clearly chasing dollars and trying to distance themselves from any responsibility in regards to Hamilton has actually managed to flip the situation upside down.  We should all be upset that Hamilton can't maintain control, that he let his fans down.  We should be coming to terms with accepting a lengthy suspension, one that deprives the aging and broken slugger of a few more months of whatever is left to use up in his body.

Instead, anger over the Angels behavior has led, in my opinion, to no suspension for Josh Hamilton and people so mad at the Los Angeles Angels that the team is drawing criticism from all over at how they treat their players.

And Texas, surprisingly, after an acrimonious departure by Hamilton, has been most supportive of Josh.  Josh was one of our biggest heroes of all time.  Those of us who paid attention to the back office know what it took to keep Hamilton going.  What the Rangers paid in salary was only a part of the struggle to keep Hamilton on the field.  And yet, I think we would all take him back in an instant.  Oh, maybe not at THAT salary, but if we could work something out, I would take Josh Hamilton back.  Open arms, big hugs and all of that.

Josh Hamilton never won all of the battles we wanted him to win.  But, surprisingly or not, I think it's time Texas won one for him.  If we can.

from an email to a friend on game 2...

Man, that game last night didn’t feel like Lewis threw three-hit, one-run ball. But Cyber-Colbra did it. And old man Beltre pulled off his second day of amazing defense; too bad he’s not hitting. But Prince, man. He was awesome. And I feel really good about Kela/Tolleson/Feliz. I think the Rangers have the best 7-8-9 group since Ogando/Scheppers/Nathan. It felt so good to hear Eric Nadel shout"and he struck him out swinging!” The bad news is that Choo is clearly still hurt. Or hurt again. Now, granted, he’s never been a defensive whiz, but the scuttlebutt is that he was pulled lateas muchbecause of injury concerns as defense. Bad contract is bad.
