It's a new year, and nothing is going on...

So all I've got is some articles from around the Western Division:

Angelswin wonders if the LAAA can score runs this year.  Answer:  they should score about the same as they did last year.

Angelswin also asks the important questions:  Is Mike Trout worth $400 million?  Will he get it?  Should he get it?

Halosheaven is trying to be very excited about Mark Mulder.  UPDATE:  Look, honestly, for the deal they signed, Mulder *may* be a great deal.  On the other hand, if he was 32 and was coming off arm surgery, it would *definitely* be a good deal.  I mean, the upside of this deal is *so* remote, that if your an Angels fan, all you can really hang on to is that the contract certainly isn't *hurting* the Angels.  And *if* Mulder's shoulder really isn't hurt (you know what's bad about learning he didn't need serious arm surgery?  He may still need it...) and *if* it's just been a mechanical problem that was miraculously fixed, and on top of all that *IF* he can still pitch at a Prime Time level at the age of 36 after not pitching for several years...he could be anywhere from lousy to awesome.  But probably lousy.

At Lookoutlanding, there is an article about how the Mariner's in-house lawyer understands that Robinson Cano, by himself, may make Seattle a .500 team, and therefore more work needs to be done.

The Astros signed free-agent reliever Jesse Crain, and the Mariners kind of wish they had done that.

Hardballtalk points out that, by the standards baseball has been held to in the past, Baseball is doing *fine*, but FOOTBALL MAY BE DYING.

The latest Tanaka news is that Seattle is first in line, followed by the teams that typically throw money at their problems, followed by Detroit, with the Rangers, Rays, Diamondbacks and RSox skulking in the corner, waiting to pounce at the slightest indication of weakness.

So, if NPB was equivalent to MLB, then Masahiro Tanaka could be anything from Shields, Price, Hamels, Kuroda or Greinke to Jackson, Niese or Gallardo.  Do you give him King Felix money based on that?  Also, keep in mind (as I've mentioned repeatedly) NPB is NOT equivalent to MLB, and a guy like Tanaka DOES NOT project well.

Danger, Will Robinson!!!  Danger!!!
